Go To Cape for Women

Yes, I am make-up less - I was trying to catch some sunlight
and didn't apply make-up after showering since I
had no intention of leaving the house today or  seeing
anyone - but now lots of people
will see me - oh, well too late now.
I jumped at the opportunity to test Andrea's  Women's Go To Cape pattern last week. After sewing up B's cape I wanted to have one of my own.

I dug through my fabric stash until I found this mystery fabric that has an imitation suede look to it. I got this fabric from my mother-in-law R when she moved 9 years ago!
I used some scraps left from D's Shaun The Sheep pillow, from last year's Xmas gifts, as the hood lining and the "fur" trim. The body of the cape is lined with a dark blue flannel.

I was finally able to get some usable photos just before sunset with D taking pictures after he got off the bus from school - guess I am turning my 5 year old into my personal photographer :)

The pattern was easy to follow and clearly written. Due to the size of my button tab I only applied one tab & I think it suits better than two tabs would. The buttons I used are huge! at 1.25" diameter even though the pattern only calls for 3/4" buttons - these were in my stash and I felt like they went with the cape and trim. I love the peek-out "fur" on the hood - very easy to accomplish with the instructions from Andrea.

A tip I want to share is that I used my blind hem foot to do the top-stitching around the edge of the cape to help keep it all even.
On the armholes I left the basting stitches in place in the lining until I had top stitched around the armhole, catching the "fur" trim that I inserted between the outer fabric & lining.

Looking at the pictures, I should have put the armholes' "fur" trim on the other side so the my arm doesn't cover it when I actually have my hands through the holes.

trim peeking through.

This was an easy pattern to construct - I should note that I used my serger very little since all of the seams are enclosed! It takes a bit of time to get all together but it is a cute accessory and with the right fabric could be perfect in any wardrobe. The more I see mine, the more I know I'll wear it, but it will have to wait for Spring & Fall since I didn't have any wool in my stash :( - it may look like suede and fur but it is not so it isn't warm enough for Minnesota - dang it!

If you are in the market for a new accessory then I highly recommend this pattern - especially since you could make  matching mother-daughter capes now that both patterns are available :)...mmmmm another project added to the list.

Well, I hope everyone is doing well and not too stressed with the holidays - I still have all of our pj's to get sewn up for Xmas eve. Luckily I have a pattern for B's pj's (Simplicity 8693 circa 1978) that will be perfect for her; then for the guys I really just need comfy pants and a t-shirt for D.

I have to toot my own horn, when I logged in tonight I found that yesterday I had 523 views!!! most of the views were from Pinterest to my bleach pen shirt post from last winter - that was a very nice surprise! I don't get that much traffic - I had no idea since no one left any comments but how awesome is that?!

I better say good night, hope everyone has a happy holiday season.
Blessed Be, Alyssa
