B's Red Apron

B is getting a small kitchen set for xmas so she needs an apron for play and for helping me in the kitchen. I asked her what color apron she wanted me to make her new apron, she responded "red", though considering she answers red to nearly all color related questions I should have expected it.
I had the perfect fabric in mind, I received it from my mother-in-law R when she moved and needed to clear out some things. I had just enough for this project. I lined this so it is reversible and so there wouldn't be exposed seams. A note to say that these measurement are based on B's, who is a taller 2yr old. She is approximately 35" tall with a 21" waist. I have to apologize, I didn't get all the pictures taken that I should have while I was making this, it was a quick, Daddy is home and has the kids occupied type of day.

Two pieces for the top portion measuring 8"x8"
You will need:

Two pieces measuring 20"x10" for the bottom.
Sew right sides together on three sides, turn right side out and press.
Sew a gathering stitch along the top, raw edge.

I forgot to take a picture of the neck strap pieces but they were 2"x14" with right sides sewn together then turned right side out.
When the 8"x8" fabric and lining were sewn right sides together I first placed the neck strap pieces along the top between the fabric and lining so that everything is sewn into one seam.
Sew along each side and the top but leave the bottom open for turning.
The waistband is made up of two pieces of fabric measuring 2"x42". I made the straps and waistband from a third cordinating fabric.

Find center of the waistbands and top piece. Place one waistband piece right sides together with the main fabric then flip and place the second waistband piece right sides to the lining as shown.
Flip the waistband down and press. Then press the raw edges under about 1/2"
On the bottom piece with the gather stitch along the top, gather up the fabric as much as you want, I gathered it to 12" wide.
Find the center of the bottom piece and match up with the center of waistband. Place the bottom piece within the waistband, enclosing the raw edge. Sew, catching all layers. I continued sewing all the way around the waistband, top-stitching all four edges.
You could top stitch everything but I didn't. I am thinking I need to add a pocket though. Well, I hope this helps someone out.
Have a good afternoon and Blessed Be.
